Has anyone heard much about a documentary called The Mamas and the Papas at the Chanel (a club in Boston) or does anyone own a copy? How does one get a copy? etc. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the documentary but I talked to Mackenzie about The New Group playing The Channel and she remembered it and recalled that they were likely recorded there with Dinky Dawson (who did a lot of the sound there) being their sound guy. What more can you tell us about what you've heard about it?

Thanks for the heads up on this.
Here's the correct link -
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183484/ Very interesting review of it over there - sounds like something I'd really like to get a hold of...

would love to see also..have written to Mark Apostolon..no reply. I do wish there was more excitement on this site for the "Many Mamas Many Papas" release. I'm kind of surprise that folks here seem to be dismissing it overall. Sad, it's a great collection. Amazon only has 4 reviews.

I think it might be cause they itunes bonus tracks weren't included on the second disc when they could have easily put them there. Overall, it's still a good release, imo.

I spoke to Mark Apostolon about the documentary. He sold it before it was finalized and is unsure if any copies still exist as even he did not keep a copy. Given the review that has been unearthed and Mr. Apostolon's own memory of some friends' reactions to it, I think it was finished but whether it survives is another question....

Thanks Richard and re comments about the CD- I love the Many Mamas Many Papas CD, Can't stop playing it. It is so good. Great performances and arrangements of great John Phillips songs. Love the cover of the Moody Blues "GO Now" also. Spanky was in fine voice and Mackenzie was great- I wish she would get in the recording studio- what a talent! Then there is the version of Kokomo with Denny and Scott- beautiful and John! Love this CD!!!!

hey glennc...can you post what you wrote in a review of the cd on Amazon? It would really help. Not much promotion has been done for this cd..which is a shame, but probably no resources to do so...but we can write reviews, and it does help.
