It seems like every year around this time, I start to get into a mood where I am playing songs from the summer of 1974, you know, the period of Cass' death. Well, this year is no exception and I'm starting to hear songs from the summer of 1974 in my head. Cass' sister Leah Kunkel stated in the book, "Dream A Little Dream, The Life of Cass Elliot", "Everybody was traumatized by her death", "I'm still traumatized by it". There was something so shocking and untimely about it. I really don't understand it to this day. It was also a real weird time in America, and somehow Cass' death seemed to embody a lot of what was really crazy about that time. Good point and the music from that period illustrates that as well.
